GENERAL SUMMARY
 

Working under the direction of the Shift Manager, this individual is primarily responsible for performing daily operational duties including opening/closing, managing ice skates, assisting skaters in the lodge and on the skating rink, informing patrons of rules, and monitoring the safety of all visitors.

Responsibilities

AREAS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for opening, securing, and closing facility according to policy.
  2. Skating: must be able to safely skate on the ice, ensure rules are followed, provide limited assistance to new skaters, inform violators of the rules and provide warnings and further suspension of skating as described in rules.  Assist with and report unsafe conditions to Zamboni Operator and Shift Manager as needed.
  3. Non-Skating: check for wristband on customers, passing out and returning skates according to policy, help tie and ensure proper conditions of skates, work with Clerks when overall skate availability runs low or when a certain size skate is no longer available.
  4. Keep the lodge clean and always maintained; cleanliness (mop, sweep, dust), bathroom checks, ensure patrons are in proper areas.
  5. Offer excellent customer service to all patrons.  Greets customers with a smile and respond to patron needs in a kind and courteous manner.  Provide general direction and supervision on and off the rink to both youth and adult skaters.
  6. Remove and shovel snow in and around the facility, the entrances and cleaning the skating rink surfaces of snow as required.
  7. Know and enforce safety standards and policies of the facility and skating rink.
  8. Must have reliable transportation and be able to work all scheduled hours, including early afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  9. Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.
  10. When necessary, must complete accurate and appropriate paperwork.
  11. Perform basic first aid and CPR/AED skills if necessary.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

Work schedule will take place November through February, or as weather permits.  Variable schedule working afternoon weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.  The potential for a year-round schedule may be discussed.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education: 

Requires a level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a minimum of one (1) year of high school.

 

Experience:

Some experience in similar environments working with children and families is desired. Knowledge of ice skating is required.

 

Interpersonal Skills:

Must be able to interpret and enforce all skating rules and policies. Must be able to work with a diverse population and a variety of ages. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with the public, including the part-time and full-time staff, and be able to deal in a persuasive manner.

 

Analytical Ability: 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Must be able to operate in an efficient and safe manner all equipment required for this position and in accordance with City policy and direction.

 

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is required to skate, stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 60 pounds.

 

Work Environment: 

The employee primarily works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to extreme cold, wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Job Requirements:

Individual must have proper certification for CPR/AED and First Aid. If not currently certified, this training will be provided by employer.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to:            Recreation Coordinator- The Landing

Supervision:          This position has no responsibility for the supervision of others.
