GENERAL SUMMARY

Working under the direction of Recreation Coordinator – The Landing, this position, along with the Maintenance/Zamboni Operator, will be an acting manager on duty.  Responsibilities include scheduling staff, handling absences, overseeing all sales and rentals, assisting with accidents and incidents, maintaining the operation of the office, ordering supplies/concessions, and assisting all other staff while on duty.

Responsibilities

AREAS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for creating a work schedule for all staff, collecting employee’s availabilities, documenting call-ins, and finding coverage for unexpected absences.
  2. Along with the Maintenance/Zamboni Operator on duty, perform as on-site manager.
  3. Ensure staff keeps all facilities and workstations neat, clean, and safe always.
  4. Assist with opening, closing and securing the facility according to rink policy.
  5. Be primary source for rink attendant’s and clerk’s questions and fill in as needed.
  6. Work with the Maintenance/Zamboni Operator to manage all accidents, injuries, and/or incidents, both in the lodge and on the ice, and enforce all safety rules.
  7. Know and enforce safety standards and policies of the City of Bettendorf.
  8. Offer excellent customer service to all patrons. Greets customers with a smile and responds to patron needs in a kind and courteous manner.
  9. Complete accurate and appropriate attendance and incident reports.
  10. Provide guidance on accounting methods for The Landing. Work with Admin Assistant on any/all point-of-sale issues/updates and work with clerks that need further training.
  11. End of shift overview of employee clock in/clock out entries are correct. Report any issues.
  12. Safe and clerk drawer reconciliation.
  13. Inventory of food, beverage, and merchandise.
  14. Must have reliable transportation and must be able to work all scheduled hours, including early afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  15. Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.
  16. Perform the basic first aid and CPR/AED skills if necessary.
  17. Communicates via radio with staff.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

Work schedule will take place November through February, or as weather permits.  Variable schedule working afternoon weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.  The potential for a year-round schedule may be discussed.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 

Education: 

Requires a level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of high school.

 

Experience:

Must have previous experience in customer service, money handling, and staff management. Experience in supervising and working at an ice rink is preferred but not required.

 

Interpersonal Skills:

Must work well in a team environment. Must have the ability to be firm with the staff and the participants when necessary and make sound decisions to ensure the safety and well being of participants, facilities and equipment. An ability to interact and communicate well with others is essential.

 

Analytical Ability:

Routine and non-recurring problem-solving skills are required.  Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively. This will include the ability to complete daily reports. An understanding of basic mathematics is required.  Be able to follow safety guidelines and exercise good judgment in all aspects of responsibility. Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision. Must be able to operate efficiently and safely all equipment for this position and in accordance with city policies and direction.

 

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.

 

Work Environment: 

The employee works primarily indoors, but will occasionally work in outside weather conditions, being exposed to extreme cold, wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Job Requirements:

Individual must have proper certification for CPR/AED and First Aid. If not currently certified, this training will be provided by employer.
